Hello everyone! I know I haven’t been updating this as much lately, but it’s definitely not because we haven’t been busy. New updates:
I just got to hear the new mixes of HALOS last night, and it’s like 98% complete. We will be putting up a new song on the Of Colour Myspace soon!
We have a new myspace layout and design in the works, and it’s almost completely finished as well. That should be up within the next couple weeks at most!
We have booked a show on January 27th at The Brewery with Four Letter Lie and LoveHateHero! They all seem like cool dudes with a pretty big following, so it should be an awesome time.
The As The Night Explodes video is pretty much finished, and will be out in February! I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently, and sorry it has taken this long. We are planning a party event for the debut of the video, so hopefully that will help to make up for the delays.
More news and updates to come soon!

Photo from our final Of Colour show with Aj on keys. I know word spreads fast, but just in case you haven’t heard, Aj will no longer be making music with us.

She did an incredible job, and I really don’t want people to think there are hard feelings involved. She not only had a great run with us, but she was there from day one, and I honestly cannot thank her enough for all the hardwork and effort she put into this band. Please make sure to send any wellwishes and farewells to our myspace so we can pass them on to her.

I would also like to welcome Maigan Kennedy to the world as our new keys/synth/vocalist. She recorded with us on HALOS, so if you missed our recent show, you will be able to hear her kick ass soon when the songs are released!

Stage view of the crowd at last night’s show at The Pour House! Thanks to everyone who came out and had a great time with us.

Co-producer and engineer Tal Roughgarden getting caught off guard by B. Armitage’s quick camera work during Of Colour’s last day of tracking for HALOS.

Shane and Bobby doing some high energy hype work on the last day of tracking HALOS by Of Colour.

This is just going to be a kinda Of Colour recording journal thing. We’re pretty much like…80% finished with HALOS, and it’s been a crazy ride to get to this point. I cannot believe how amazing this record sounds already. I know I’m in the band so I have to say that, but really. When we first set out to record The Auriga EP, I had no idea that only 5 months later we would make something this beautiful.
Some of the songs on this record are sadder, more emotional. Some of them are more down to earth than on Auriga. The lyrics are a bit more direct and clear. I tried to not hide behind too many metaphors and cryptic meanings. I wanted people to understand what I feel and exactly where I’m coming from, which can be scary sometimes for an artist.
The drums are mindblowing. Shane is easily one of the most young and talented drummers around. His style has evolved since last time, especially noticable is the double kick work on the track ‘A Faint Flicker’. Zack and Austin’s chemistry is ridiculous on HALOS. Their guitars blend in and out of the mix with new delay and echo patterns, and sometimes with explosive rock and roll tones that we’ve never used before.
We’ve recorded everything in a more organic sense as well. We wanted to use technology as a tool, and less like a crutch this time. When we recorded The Auriga EP, we had to get everything tracked within a few days at most. This time around, we weren’t afraid to spend as much time as we needed; tracking and re-tracking until we got everything perfect.
The keys, sound effects, and synths have yet to be recorded, but we have some awesome ideas in the works for those too. Can’t wait to finish it all up.

This is the final bit of lyrics to be posted for the upcoming Of Colour release, HALOS. Though this is not the last song on the record, it was the one who’s concept changed the most for me. It went through a lot of lyrical directions, and here is the final one:

Crushed Under Eden
Between the dark and the sun we were at war with you
In the night I couldn’t see
In the light what was obvious
So if my heart stopped now
My love for you would stay, floating in nothing
Until you can hear me
And everything you know, how could I know?
But there will be no secrets at now
And there will be no time to ignore, to make waste of
Your arms couldn’t hold the walls up long enough
We’d be crushed under Eden if not for us all
And so apathy was always just a choice
Alone it was so hard, together we can change it all
And everything we are, you understand
There will be no worries at all here
And there will be no time to be scared, to give up on
Even if we run away this is not an escape
It’s a chance to start again
With you I know I can be something different, a gift into a better world
And everything you know, how could I know?
But there will be no secrets at now
And there will be no time to ignore, to make waste of
And it is true I’ve never met you I feel like I could love you
And even though I don’t know you I feel like I could love you

We’ve all been getting really excited about our new release, HALOS, but I also want to show a little love to our first EP, AURIGA (click to purchase on Itunes for less than $4.00). The amazing cover art was done by James Lewis.

It’s only been about 5 months since we released our first EP to the public. We’ve grown so much as people, as writers, and as musicians since then. Sometimes just being in Of Colour blows my mind.

I just want to say thanks to each and every person who has supported us from the start, and to all the new fans we’ve made along the way. We’re going to keep growing and take what we love as far as we can. Sorry for the long post! And again, thank you.
